There has been an alarming surfeit of melodrama at mealtime recently. Gentlemen, I would advise that you approach the object of your affections—or apologies, as the case may be—in a more private setting. Though a few of us might enjoy the attention, those few are not the majority, and such spectacles are truly off-putting as it puts your judgment under severe question.

On a lighter note, I have forgotten how much I enjoy the holiday season at Hogwarts. Christmas in the city is always lovely, true—and in Cardiff especially—but there's simply something about the rustic quaintness of the countryside that feels more festive? Mum and Dad used to take me to this small village called Tongwynlais north of the river in Cardiff every Christmas Eve for caroling and sleigh rides and ice skating, and those are some of my fondest memories of the holiday season. Do you all have a favourite Christmas memory or tradition?

My eyes are burning. Honestly, five days into the new term, and already I think it's time for my seminar on Proper Makeup Application. Have you lot seen the horrific paint on the 3rd and 4th years' faces? Normally I would be directing this toward those of you who feel it not necessary to wear any sort of facial cosmetic, but this year's spectacle seems to be proving rather the opposite. It seems some young ladies, many of whom are sadly clad in scarlet and gold, have missed the "Less Is More" memo, and I can only assume the foreign gentlemen walking about the castle are to blame.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself, gentlemen, bringing out the worst in our young ones like this. Fortunately, there are those such as myself who are willing to set them straight.

When is our first Hogsmeade weekend? I'm already going stir-crazy in this tower.

Brill. Quidditch all year, all the time. As much fun as that sounds. Oh well, I'd decided I wasn't going to go out for the Gryffindor team again this year, anyway. It's an awful lot of fuss and people get so worked up about it. What do you suppose the Hogwarts team colours will be? I should try to pick up a few things for the matches at Diagon this week, and I've plenty of scarlet and gold, but haven't the slightest idea what one ought to wear to support just plain Hogwarts.
